The Palestinian people ((アラビア語:الشعب الفلسطيني), ''ash-sha'ab il-filastini'') are an Arabic-speaking people with family origins in the region of Palestine. Since 1964, they have been referred to as Palestinians ((アラビア語:الفلسطينيين), ''al-filastiniyyin''), but before that they were usually referred to as Palestinian Arabs ((アラビア語:العربي الفلسطيني), ''al-'arabi il-filastini''). During the period of the British Mandate, the term Palestinian was also used to describe the Jewish community living in Palestine. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra was founded as the Palestine Orchestra, and The Jerusalem Post newspaper was founded as the Palestine Post. == Early History ==
The Arab population of Palestine traces their history to the Muslim conquest of Palestine in 640 CE. In the Old City of Jerusalem, the Dome of the Rock, one of the oldest Mosques in the world, was completed in 691 CE at the order of Arab Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan.
